FAQ
Will you publish on other Android app stores (GetJar, SlideMe, F-Droid, etc)?
Our first priorities are maintaining our app on Amazon, Google Play, and the Windows Store. After that we may release our apps on GetJar, SlideMe, We may also release it on Samsung's Galaxy Apps and the Opera Mobile Store.
F-Droid is open source only, and even though Sidekick International is a huge supporter of open source, Sidekick News is built on Worona, a closed source platform.
However, if you are on a device that can't use Google Play or the Amazon Appstore, you can still click the "Download APK" button to download a local installer for the app. This will work on any phone.

Do you plan on making iOS or Universal Windows Platform apps?
We have iOS versions but it would be too costly for us to publish them on the App Store. Apple charges developers $99 a year, which hurts small developers like us. By comparison, Google just charges a one time $25 fee, Microsoft charges a one time $19-$99 fee, and Amazon charges nothing.
iOS users are encouraged to add a shortcut to their homescreen from Safari.
As for UWP (Universal Windows Platform), Microsoft has made it super easy for developers to convert Android apps to UWP apps, and we do plan on releasing a Windows 10 Mobile app (probably around the same time it goes up on the Play Store). We probably won't release Desktop or Xbox apps since it wouldn't be formatted correctly.

Can you just release the iOS/UWP apps on your website?
iOS apps are packaged in .ipa files. For Android apps, we can upload the Android app files (.apk), and somebody on their Android phone can download the app and install it there. For iOS, we can upload the .ipa but you would have to use a program like Cydia Impactor to install it on your phone without the use of the App Store. This process, called "sideloading", can be done without jailbreaking, and you can learn more about it here.
However, for the time being, we do not plan on releasing .ipa files for our apps. We will continue to release the .apk files though. And we haven't even made the UWP apps yet.

Are there ads?
Currently there are no ads. However, we may eventually release an ad supported version with a 99-cent ad-free/donation version. But on the bright side, we'll be able to expand the Sidekick News platform.
